How to care for your Mattress

Optimum Sleep Systems

Give yourself a few days to adjust to the support and sleep surface of your new uniquely designed Optimum mattress. Also, remember that pillows play an important role in ensuring sleep posture. Your body needs time to adjust to the correct way of sleeping (compare this to the running-in of a new pair of shoes). Body impressions are a good indicator of contour comfort. When they occur, this means that the Optimum mattress construction is conforming to your body’s personal, individual contours and would level to its final position. A body impression is not a structural defect, but a normal indicator of you mattress’s engineered performance. Normal body impressions of around 4cm can be expected. Your Optimum mattress actually improves with use. To assure maximum mattress performance, you should equalize these important body impressions. Simply turn the mattress end to end and upside down every month during the first three months of use. Then turn quarterly thereafter. This lets your mattress adjust smoothly and evenly to your body weight. Do not attempt to turn the mattress by yourself as mattresses are heavy and could cause injury to yourself or damage to the product (especially the base)

Never bend or fold your Optimum mattress

Always keep your bedding clean. A mattress protector is recommended. Allow your base and mattress to ‘air’ upon removal from its plastic packaging. Keep plastic covers away from children. Do not smoke in bed. Do not stand or jump on your mattress or base. It was not built for that kind of weight concentration or abuse. Do not allow your mattress to get wet. This will nullify your warranty.  Most mattress protectors are waterproof and if you or your kids accidentally spill some juice, coffee or even food on your mattress, it will not be absorbed by your mattress, thus preventing permanent stains and foul smells over time. And as we all know, accidents do happen!

Why is a Mattress Protector Important?

  • Keep your mattress clean.
  • Keep your Mattress more Hygienic.
  • Reduce allergies
  • Protects your warranty

There are a few types of mattress protectors. The best protectors will have some sort of performance fabric on the top to wick away heat and moisture from the body. These tend to be the most expensive, but are great for people who sweat a lot at night. These are both waterproof and breathable. An example of this is the Bedgear Dri-Tec protector. This is the one I use.
